Rescue Me ID: 14-06-02-00617Jake (male)

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Jake is simply the BEST dog ever and is in need of a loving home. Jake, or Jaker, as he is often called is what you would call a gentle giant. He is 11 yrs old and will turn 12 in February. Jake is a thought to be a coonhound and Great Dane mix. We adopted Jake and his brother Elwood from a rescue agency in 2003 when they were 6 mtgs old - they simply were the greatest animals I have ever had. Elwood passed away last year on Christmas day and it is now just Jake. Unfortunately, life changes are taking place and we know longer are able to keep Jake - we can not have pets in our new location and we desperately want to find a home for ... (Read More)Jake. He is a very loving dog. He loves people, all animals, adults, children - he loves everyone and everything. There are always other dogs around him, we also have a cat who he has lived with for 7 years happily, and even had a rabbit that he was fine with. He is getting old, and age is kicking in. He still gets around, but steps are not as easy as they used to be, getting up and down from a nap (which he loves to nap) can take a little time, and his hearing is diminishing and he is prone to yeast infections in his ear because they are floppy (just requires frequent cleaning). But all and all, he is very healthy and very happy. He just wants to be petted and relax as he lives out the final years of his life. He has been an incredibly loving and devoted member of our family and it is very painful to have to seek a home for him, but we unfortunately have no choice. He is current on all his vaccines and if any are coming due, I will gladly pay to have him up to date for anyone interested in giving him his final home. I can guarantee you that you won't find a more devoted animal and a more deserving animal. Please pass the word and consider giving Jake a home. Thank you. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-30-00147Barnabas (male)

Black and Tan Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Barney is a Black and Tan Coonhound that was an immediate crowd favorite. He is likely around 12-18 months old and has a great disposition. He loves to play and socialize with other dogs and has shown no aggression toward any dog or person. He has interacted with both large and small dogs and has done phenomenally well with both. He was very gentle with the smaller dogs. He loves to be loved and babied by his two-legged friends. He loves attention and likes to nuzzle his nose in your lap to soak up your pets and scratches. He has a super soft coat and sheds minimally. We have yet to see him interact with cats or children, but believe he ... (Read More)would do well with kids. If he is anything like other Coonhounds, cats may fall under the 'prey' rather than 'friend' category, but he could surprise us. Although it doesn't appear he had much interaction with toys, he has grown to love chasing and playing fetch with the ball. He was initially mildly protective of the ball, giving a bark if another dog had it and he wanted, but he never snapped or bit. After a short while, he learned how to share with others. Barnabas has a good appetite and has not shown any food aggression, even when eating at his foster home around other hounds. Barney has good energy and would fit in well with an energetic young household that has a yard with a fence or a family that would provide him with regular walks, trips to the dog park, and/or day care. He is house-broken and lets you know when he needs to go outside. He sleeps well through the night in a dog bed in the master bedroom at home. In the past, he did great in a kennel with a bed and a blanket. He has not had formal training, but knows how to sit and would likely be a fairly quick learner. Barney is truly a great dog and will make a great companion for someone, or a lucky family! (Less)

Black and Tan Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Harper is a young, beautiful, and sweet-natured black and tan coonhound. Harper needs a home with someone who is committed to leash walking - or who has a 5-6 foot fence. She clears a baby gate like it doesn't exist. That said, she is a calm, laid-back girl, which is unusual in one so young.

Black and Tan Coonhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chappy is a beautiful black and tan coonhound. The shelter worked so hard to find a rescue to take this nice boy that we just couldn't say no. For one so young, he is calm and gentle. Chappy is very good with the rest of the dogs in his foster home, and has even cut the cats a break. He LOVES being a house dog. Chappy is a little bit shy in new situations, but quickly adjusts when he realizes that he is safe.
