*TOM AND KING NEED A FOSTER OR ADOPTER TO SAVE THEIR LIVES. CAN BE SEPARATED. MUST BE ABLE TO TRAVEL TO BLOOMINGDALE, IL.* Tom (dog on the left) is about 2 year old, and believed to be a hound mix. Tom spent his entire puppyhood confined to an outdoor kennel along with his 2 brothers at an overwhelmed sanctuary. He was pulled from the now closed facility in December of 2014 and has been making steady progress in learning to trust and interact with people. He was the first of his brothers to learn to play with toys and he loves to go on walks. He is still unsure about new situations and new people. But his naturally curious nature has helped ... (Read More)him learn to trust people with time. He has been introduced to other dogs besides his siblings, including other larger males and has shown no aggression towards them. He does not seem to have any interest in cats. He has been introduced to children as young as 8 and seemed interested in interacting with them. He has adjusted well and has made great strides, but he has reached a point where he needs to be exposed to more then what we can give him. He needs a rescue/foster home that will be able to help him gain even more confidence and give him the chance to finally be a happy dog. King (dog on the right) is about 2 years old and is most likely a hound mix. He has been with this shelter since December 2014 and has finally started to gain more confidence and trust in people. He can still be nervous with new situations and new people, and seems a bit sensitive to sudden noises. However he has come a long way from a dog who refused to leave his kennel after first coming here. He was diagnosed with heart worms and has successfully gone through treatment. He has been successfully introduced to other dogs, doesn't seem interested in cats and is accepting of older children who will give him a little space when needed. King is now looking towards the next step in his life, as he has advanced as far as he can in our current shelter environment. He needs a rescue/foster home that can continue to slowly expose him to new experiences in order for him to continue to gain confidence and trust. Both Tom and King were treated for heart worm disease and are now fully vetted and heart worm negative. Donna (Less)

Matilda, unsure of her mix ? Female About 5 months old Matilda was abandoned at our partner shelter in Tennessee. This shelter does everything in their power to find rescue for the dogs that come through their doors. Safe Haven Dog Rescue brought her to Illinois to give her a second chance at love! She is currently in a foster home and we will have more information on her soon! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or ... (Read More)puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, up-to-date on shots, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email for an application or additional details.
